        Mark----

If you are after Goodyear reproduction tires, the distributor is Kelsey Tire of Camdenton, MO. You can "dial them up" at www.kelseytire.com. You can buy the tires direct from them or through Goodyear dealers, either way the price is usually the same and either way you have to pay for freight, which is not inconsequential. However, if you get them from a Goodyear dealer, they'll mount them for free.

Another option is to buy these tires through Corvette Central. If you buy a complete set of 4, they pay the freight. The only problem is, then you have to mount them or pay someone to do it.

My understanding is that these tires are produced on molds owned by Kelsey Tire in a Goodyear subsidiary plant. I like the Goodyear reproduction tires the best of all, but, then, I've always used Goodyear Tires on my Corvette. I was thrilled when Kelsey introduced the reproduction "Speedway Wide Tread" for 68-72 models. Incidentally, this is the only authentic reproduction tire available today for 68-72 Corvettes. The Firestone Wide Oval available today is a fiberglass belted tire; the original Firestone Wide Ovals used on Corvettes were not.

                A contrary opinion/option

Now let's examine why you want 'em. If your objective is max concours points for a car you don't drive, I'd say go to either source (Coker has a good reputation) and get 'em. If your objective is to score high with car you basically drive and show occassionally, I'd advise you NOT to buy this rubber!

Modern service replacement radial tires (what's acceptable is listed in the NCRS Judging Guide) drive SO MUCH better than bias ply, I'd advise you to save the money on repro originals, put the cheaper/better performing current day technology on your wheels and make up the points you lose in deduction by driving to your NCRS meet....

                    Jack----

I wholeheartedly agree----there's no way that original Goodyear Power Cushions are going to perform like modern radials. For street driving, radials are the way to go without question. However, if the man wants Goodyear Power Cushions, the man wants Goodyear Power Cushions. Personally, I love to see old Corvettes with original-type tires. I think it really completes the package. That's why I have two sets of tires mounted and ready to go. One set of Speedway Wide Treads for poking around town and another set of Goodyear Eagle radials for the road.

Oh, and an impact gun with torque-limiting socket to make the change easy on my tired arms.

I agree with you both! But I just love the look of those original-type tires. Maybe I'll get set of red-line radials as well...Thanks again guys, Mark.

I do the same thing - have a set of BFG Silvertown bias 6.70x15 wide whites mounted for judged shows (which are absolutely terrifying to drive on), and another set of original rims with Coker Classic 205/75R15 radial wide whites that are on the car 99.99% of the time (they totally change the entire character of the car and make it a joy to drive instead of a scary chore).
