62 Tempature Sender

Think my sending unit might be bad. How do I test it? Does anyone make the correct aftermarket sender? Not concerned with judging, just accurate reading.
Also noticed in archives someone talking about calibrating the temp gauge. Is there an adjustment on back or is this best left to a pro? Thanks in advance.

There is an aftermarket sender offered by Autozone that a lot of folks have had good success with. It is made by Wells, model TU5. Costs about $6. Why do you think your sender is bad? Have you checked your actual temp? You can do so with a meat thermometer taped to the bottom side of the upper radiator hose, or preferably with an infrared thermometer. While it is not a sure thing, most senders that give an accurate reading have about 700 ohms resistance at about 70* (room temp). This is just a quick check, since your sender doesn't operate at room temp. There is a volume of info on this subject if you check the archives. It is much preferable to get an accurate sender than to try to "adjust" the gauge with a resistor.
