    NICB

Has anyone had any luck in getting information from the NICB lately. I've dug through the archives and some people have been successful and others haven't. My insurance and law enforcement contacts don't have access. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Re: NICB

About six or seven years ago a friend of a friend in law enforcement got the original buyer and dealer info for my car from them with just a phone call. Now it is my understanding that any inquiries must be officially part of an active police investigation and a case number etc. must be provided by the officer.

      Re: NICB

Last year I called them and explained I was doing an owner search on my classic car. I gave them the VIN and within 45 minutes I had the original selling dealer. They even told me what State/town the original buyer lived in. Once I had this information the ownership trail began to unravel. Good Luck!

In spite of that success story,

I have been told it is a felony to file a false report with NICB. And you are filing a flase report when you make an inquiry. Or so I have been told by those that have access to the system. That's why they tell you they have no access. It is also illegal to access previous owners name due to privacy laws. In other words, you and your law enforcement friend could wind up in a heapa' trouble boy.

            Re: Call NICB and Ask!

When I called I gave my name and what I wanted. I did not say or imply I was with any agency. I simply told them what I wanted. They couldn't have been nicer. I even gave them my telephone number and they called me back. Call and ask, hey you never know!

I would like to post telephone no. but I'm not sure it would be a good idea.

I used the link provided and e-mailed the NICB.
This is their response to a question regarding original selling dealer
                    It was worth a try.

                      Rob,

That's pretty much the standard reply they've given everyone.

I'm not sure how he got the NICB to give him information.
