67 Tele Column

My 67 has the standard steering column. Would a tele column give me more knee room? Where can I find dimensional information comparing the tele and standard columns?

How is the 67 tele column different than the 65-66?

Hello Larry, Yes, a tele column will give you a little more knee room. But you may be able to gain room with your standard column. It has an adjustment feature built into it. Loosen the pinch bolts on both ends of the "rag" joint, loosen clamp at firewall, (engine side) loosen three bolts under dash holding column to support. You may also need to loosen/remove the two screws holding the U-shaped trim ring on the bottom of the dash that the column goes through. With everything loose, you should now be able to move column about two inchs (total distance) in or out. The '67 tele column has about three inchs movement, as do the '65 & '66. The early columns will not fit your car. Should you decide to buy a'67 column, bring your banker. Good luck, Bill

Thanks - I'll try it. My banker is holding his breath hoping there is in fact another 2 inches in the right direction...
