I have checked the archives for advice on sealant to use when replacing a windshield on a c1. I am still confused. What sealant should be used and where should it be used? Advice in the archives contradicts the ST 12 service manual. I would prefer to use as little as possible. The car is a 62 and will not be driven in the rain. What should I do?

Re: C1 windshield replacement
Greg:
I went through this about a year and a half ago, the advice from this board was no sealant anywhere EXCEPT the gray putty around a couple of the windshield post holes (I think it was the two on each post "tab"). I also put a small o-ring styled piece on each of the "T" bolt holes. Oh yea, some of the black puddy on top where the end posts go into the upper stainless on top of the windshield. Ypu should be able to confirm this upon dissassembly of your frame. Any silicon will most lilely be ineffective and make future disassembly impossible. I was also told that they leaked from the factory. I hope this helps.

Re: C1 windshield replacement
I was one of those guys recommending no sealant. The last one I put in, the glass has been ground a little further on the lower corners than the original and it doesn't seal well there. I'm going to take it back apart and put a little sealer just in the corners. If your gasket fits well, you shouldn't need any sealer, but if it's like the one I juast described, a little may be required.- Top

Re: C1 windshield replacement
For what it is worth - I put the windshield together on my 56, two times without sealant. Both times the top frame pulled away from the glass when I put the top up. I had a 1/4" air gap in the top middle of the windshield. The tabs on my posts were not broken when I put it together either.
The third time I put it together, I used black silicone sealant and that fixed my problem. It stays together.
that my $.02 on this.
