I am trying to get the exhaust tips off of my old pipes. I cut the pipes with about 2" of pipe extending out of the tips. Would they be welded in? How can I get them out? Any ideas? Thanks

Re: C3 Exhaust tips
Yeah, Don, they're welded all right. It's possible, but doubt that they are electrically welded. Years of rust and scale have "welded" the pipe and tips together, plus the clamps can cause an indention around the tip and pipe when they are tightened. This can make it seem like they are welded.
The one thing you don't want to do is damage the tips ($$$), so the best thing will probably be to try and split the pipe segment by hacksawing, and then tearing while trying to roll the pipe up tighter inside itself, and pulling it out. Easier said than done, but I doubt that the old pipe has full strength anymore. Soaking the joints in penetrating oil for about a week before you attempt to separate the tips and pipe probably wouldn't hurt either.- Top

Re: C3 Exhaust tips
Don I just did this and found a real easy way. Cut the pipe flush with the tip. If you have an air die grinder use a small round bit and cut thru the old pipe on the inside just till you get to the tip. Make the same cut at 180 degrees and it will fall out. It tok all of two minutes and would be worth the cost of a K-Mart air grinder. LyleLyle
