    C2 black paint

I am about to do some underhood and frame painting on my 67. What paint is recommended for these areas and should the same paint be used in both areas? I know John Deere blitz black is recommended but my local dealer had no idea what I was talking about when I asked him for it and I dont see it on their website. Source for blitz black? Krylon 1613 semi flat seems too flat to me. Is it? I also tried Quanta system 5 but was disappointed in the spray quality, does not cover evenly. Thanks, Tom

Tom, if you want to buy a gallon of it and spray it with a gun, you can have the real McCoy. Quanta Products sells GM PN 1050104 in gallons, which is THE black paint that they used. Otherwise, I think you are stuck with Krylon 1613. It seems like someone mentioned a third option by Seymour? recently...you might try an archive search for "black paint" to see if you can find it.

Blitz Black is too flat for my tastes on the frame. For underhood it is just about right. I will never use anything else for underhood stuff on a C2. The late, great, Dale Pearman told me about Blitz Black. It lays down nice and more evenly than the 1613 due to a much better spray nozzle. I've used Quanta's frame paint and found it to be a good product, just used some a few weeks ago on a 67 frame with excellent results. I've also used Ditzler full gloss black enamel with about 20% flattening. It too looks very good with the correct amount of gloss. Rustoleum Satin Black (7777) also looks nice on a frame. It can be purchased in spray cans or quarts at Walmart.

I use GM Part #1050104 reconditioning enamel. 1 gallon cost me $42.00. I like to start out with a coat of PPG black epoxy primer dp90lf. Then spray on the GM or whatever you like. If you choose the GM paint, after primer, spray a med. wet to wet coat. DG

If you read the can you will notice that krylon is made be Sherwin Williams and you can go to their automotive paint store and have them mix a pintof black and put it in two spray cans, one with 15% flatterner, and the other at 20 % or so,I haven't done it in awhile,so don't know if they still offer this service. But they used to,as well as the dupont store.

Here is something to think about. The Krylon paint looks correct. Problem I have notice on many cars at shows is the paint bubbles from the reflective heat from the engine chrome to the underside of the hood on sunny days. High temp paint may be better.

Just put a cover on the air cleaner lid; the real danger from reflection of the sun at a show isn't bubbling the blackout paint on the bottom of the hood - it's bubbling the nice shiny paint on the TOP of the hood!
