C3 Parking Brake Console Removal Help

For the life of me I can't get the parking brake console out of my '68. It seems like there's something inside, towards the rear, keeping me from removing it. The four screws are out. I can lift the front up a bit and I've tried sliding it forward, but no go. If it matters, it does have power windows.

It is fastened to the center divider. Look over behind the divider for bolts.

There's a bolt to the back of the console that's accessed through the center compartment in the rear.

I got mine out using a long ratchet extension.

It's a bit difficult to get to though.

        Roger,
This is just one of the many places where an Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM)would help you. There is a picture in it that shows the very bolt you need to access.
Shameless plug - assembly manuals are available from the NCRS store. Click on the button above that says "online store."

My AIM is packed in a box at the moment. I took a quick look again yesterday and didn't see how to get at a bolt w/o removing the entire compartment setup because of the way it appears the center compartment is held in place. I'm going to dig my AIM out in a bit and take a look. I'm guessing it may be accessed from under the car. I did renew my membership yesterday!

            Roger,
As Richard stated - it is accessed through the center compartment. You will have to remove the flocked cardboard that constitutes the center compartment in order to get at the head of the bolt, then follow Richard's suggestion about using a long extension to get a socket to it.

Rich I use just a 1/4'' ratchet and a deep socket is just the right length to do the job for me. Lyle

Roger I have removed the center console a few times on both my 68 and 70. I was always able to come from the passenger storage compartment behind the bulkhead wall and remove this bolt. I do have the service manuals. The bolt is unique in design if yours is original in the shoulder area of the bolt and the length of the bolt head if I remember correctly. It is either a 3/8 or 7/16 bolt head. I have not removed the center compartment to access this bolt, just reach in from the passenger side with the left hand and feel and find the bolt and them put the socket on to remove.

You can access the rear bolt from the passengerside rear compartment. Where the jack is. I believe it is a 3/8" hex head socket. Removal is not going to be your problem. Getting it lined up when putting it back together can be tough.
