1967 BB Valve covers

I'm going to try again, because I didn't give all the right info. My most recent flight judging the judging team looked at my valve covers, and said repro! Now from what you guys have said. I have, should I say dimples where there should be welds for drip rails.(It really doesn't look like welds to me.) they do seem to have the correctbracket for the wire loom on the left side, and the slant for the brake booster.Of course they are steel, and the correct orange. I have heard that the originals have a very pronounced crimping on all four corners. Mine seem to have some crimping around the corners,BUT it doesn't seem to be pronounced
Sooo what do I look for, obviously the welds, what else.
#2 Where might I find some? Does anyone make a repro that imitates well enough, or must I just find used and recondition.
#3 What could I expect to pay for the correct piece, in restorable condition.

Don - there are some good originals and decent repros out there too. I would check with Cranes Corvettes in San Diego, I belive he has both. Orignals are pricey - usually about $400 a pair or so. I am not up on if the good repros are judging worthy, but they look good on the surface and do have drippers and baffles. I am not sure about the coutour on the lip you mention though..Craig

Craig, thanks for the help. I guess I should pretty much assume if the drip rails are welded in, then that would probably mean they are original.Thanks, Don

In the case of both original and reproduction valve covers, the dripper rails are spot-welded to the bottom surface of the valve cover and the welds "show through" on the upper, exterior surface of the covers.

One difference of the reproduction valve covers and the originals is that the reproductions are much higher quality pieces. This shows in the lack of die marks seen on the side surfaces of the covers. Originals usually have "generous" die marks and poor forming of the covers on the side surfaces. Reproductions, especially the foreign variety, have near perfect forming of the covers with few, if any, die marks. The reproductions are obviously produced from much better dies than the originals were.

Joe when you speak of die marks are you refering to
tool marks on the side of the valve cover wall.

I have a set of covers that have alot of marks on the sides nothing near the bent corners but on the vertical parts of the covers lots of marks.

I just cant tell for sure if these are originals? they are chrome plated, have the dent for the brake booster and have the 2 clips on the top of the drivers side cover.
I want to sell them but if these are originals I dont want to short change myself and let them go for cheap..

any ideas on these I can send you pictures if that would help let me know..
