Re: 63-67 tail light restoration
The sockets are crimped in place. You might be able to solder them back, but it would probably be a lot easier to use some replacement sockets which just snap in. I will send you an email with a picture of what I'm describing. Don't know how to post on on the board.- Top

Re: 63-67 tail light restoration
Jim,
Just did this R&R procedure on my tail lights a few weeks ago.
You will not be able to solder the sockets because the light housings are die cast (pot-metal). Here is the procedure that I used and it worked great.
Place the socket into the housing, align it over the original rivets, take a spring-loaded, automatic center-punch and go around the holes (all three) in the socket and peen/upset the metal around the hole toward the rivet. Adjust the center punch to apply as much force as is required to get the job done. Once you firm up the socket assembly, give the rivets in the housing a few peens with the punch to finish the job.
If for some reason this doesn't work as well as it did for me. You can always drill through one location in the socket/housing assembly and re-rivet.
This is an important operation, because this connection is where the lamp bulb gets its ground.
Good luck. Send me Email if you do not understand my procedure.
