    '67 / C3 Ignition Distributor Nylon Buttons

    From Dave Fiedler's excellent TI articles at www.tispecialty.com:

    " .... the nylon button in the housing for the tach drive gear (mid 1970 and later housings) as well as the nylon buttons (first used in 1967 to provide improved wear pads for the weights) on the weight base/cam (rotating pole piece on TI)"

    My question is: are these buttons the same for both locations ? Anyone have a current part # ? [I think the GM parts group is 2.381]

    TIA

    Wayne-----

    The nylon buttons for both the distributor cross gear and cam weight plate were the same. Both were GM #1957329. This part was discontinued from GM over 10 years ago and no GM supercession is available for it. It may be available in the aftermarket, though.

    As far as the use of these butons on 67+ weight plates, they were used on only a few selected applications and were not generally used on 67-71 distributors. In fact, I believe that their first use was for some 1968 distributors and I can find no information that they were used earlier than that. But, they may have been. After about 1970, they came into general use on PRODUCTION Corvette distributors through 1974. They MAY also have been used on distributors for pre-1971 applications manufactured for SERVICE after about 1971.

      Thanks, Joe --- Kinda figured that use was sporadic. My Jan '70 P&A 30B indicates 2 used on the weight base (bump cam [if points] or rotating pole piece [if TI]) for all '68 427's, '69 427 (exc. H/Per),and '69-70 w/T.Ign. No indication of use on tach drive gear, but this catalog is too early for mid-70 introduction. My '67 Chassis Parts & Acc. Catalog has no mention of these buttons.

      Here's what appears on the distributors I have: 1111069 ('65 365hp w/points, service date 0D23 [1970 or 1980 ?] bought over the GM counter in early '80's -- has tach drive button, but no cam nylon buttons;

      1111296 8B26 ('68 435hp,TI)-- has nylon buttons in both locations

      1112038 0J3 ('71 LT1,TI) -- has nylon buttons in both locations

      1112247 4E31 ('74 base engine w/points) -- nylon button on tach drive only.
