    Rebuilding an A-6 A/C Compressor

I have been unable to find a place to rebuild my 69's A/C Compressor. Anyone have any suggestions. I live in east Tennessee an would prefer something close.

Try Vintage auto air, in Tampa FLA. They advertise in Hemmings and I have used them a couple of times with good success.

      Larry,
I used Classic Auto Air in Tampa (813) 251-4994. I believe the going rate for an A6 rebuild is $200. Suggest you have your receiver drier done (or replaced)at same time. If you are looking for someone in Tenn you might try Volunteer Vette in Knoxville for a referral. I believe Vintage Air is in Texas

        Larry,
If this is the original compressor for your Corvette, you want to be sure that whoever you have do the work understands the importance of the label. Nothing is like the original label. Even if you never intend to have the car flight judged, one never knows what the next owner will do with it.

I used Old Air Products in Ft. Worth (see www. oldairproducts.com) to rebuild my R4. They did a nice job and knew to leave the label intact.

Interesting to note that these compressor (A-6) are being producted again because of demand but are expensive. I replaced my old unit in a 70 BB car since rebuilding is a quick fix that is normally short lived. These new units even have the connections clocked correctly. The compressor decals are reproduced but the date is blank. After much trial and error (electric and manual typewriters) I purchased a set of metal number stamps at the local ACE hardware. I was able to duplicate the date stamp on the label which went undetected for deduction at a chapter and a regional meet. Hope this info helps some others and Good Luck...........Bill #20328

              Bill,

Do you mean reproduced by ACDelco?

Any idea of a part number?
