For years I have used straight weight oils in my older corvettes (pre 1967). I currently have a fuel injected 1957 that has regular 10-40. The car is a 250hp.I'm planning on changing the oil to vavoline 30wt racing oil for the summer. Will there be any problems with this. Can this be used all year long or would it be better to keep 10-40wt in it. Thanks for the help.

Re: oil
Your choice of single 30 wt should work just fine this summer. As to whether it's right for year round use, depends on ambient temp range where you live (should be fine for Florida, So Cal, Hawaii, Etc.). Check your owner's shop/manual for viscosity vs. ambient temp reccommendations.- Top

I used to use single weight oil in my 69, too. I did so from the day it was new and continued to do so for about 15 years thereafter. I live in California, so low temps are not a real problem. However, about 15 years ago, I switched to 10W-40 for year round use. About 5 years ago, I switched to 10W-30. With MODERN multi-viscosity oil technology, these oils are superb and, in my opinion, the only way to go.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
