    C3 "Stingray" Side Emblem

I've come across conflicting info as to whether the side emblems on my '70 coupe should have a "dotted" letter "I" or not.
NCRS judging manuals shows a dot over the "I",yet when reading "The Authentic Restoration Guide" 1968-1982 by Richard Prince,it says the contrary.
See page 66 if you have this informative book.
My original emblems do have a dotted "I" and would want to believe the NCRS judging manual....But where does Prince get his info??

I have both so I took a look at what each has to say...I believe they are both saying the same thing and implying original emblems do not have a dot above the i.

Prince is referring to "original" emblems versus replacement emblems. Prince is stating that replacements have the dot simulated while originals do not have the simulated dot...and in fact no dot.

The NCRS manual indicates that "interim" service replacements have a groove cut into the base. This would seem to imply originals do not have this particular configuration. All of which says your emblems are correct originals.

      Jim-----

The original "Stingray" emblems installed on my 69 have the "distinctly dotted i". I still have the original emblems, but not on the car. The replacement GM SERVICE emblems which I installed on my car in 1975 are identical to the originals.

        Jim,
My understanding of these emblems is both have a dot over the "i" but the originals lack the small groove under the dot and above the i. Both my 70 and 71 have no groove and I believe they are original to each car.

I also have the distintive "dot" and I believe the emblems are original as well, on my '71

Dave I looked over my used stock of thease emblems and the only difference I can see is short or long studs and with this the (I) changes as well as the paint. Their may be some small things different but I need them pointed out to find them. Lyle

              Lyle,
I'm not sure what you are describing. Do some have the groove under the "i"????

Dave The studs that mount the emblem have either short or long studs. The long studs are the eariler part and later sharks may have had the short studs or they are all repos I am not sure. As for the dot I am still not clear on which is right but the long studs is what I would look for on 69-73 Corvettes . The stud length is easy to tell with the hood open. If long studs have the wrong dot I would like to know as my method for Judging is the studs and the way they are painted. Lyle

                  Lyle,

I've got a 70 and 71 that are pretty original and both do not have the groove below the dot. I'll check for the long studs and report back.
