    1965 Rear Hub Recommendation

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rear hub for my 1965, right side. It gave up the ghost (sheared off right at the end of the splines) when I got a little rambunctious and dumped the clutch at 5 grand. Heck, with the 7.75 "bicycle tires" , I thought that it would be fairly hard to break anything. Besides, I also thought that the u-joints were the weak link. I guess that the spindle was just weak to begin with--it was probably punished severely in its previous life.

There are more than a few spindles available from various parts houses, and, I think that they are all the same 1965-82 and available from G.M. They are listed as "NOS" , "OEM", "imported", and "reconditioned original". Considering that I have no intention of drag racing this car, but do intend on having some fun from time to time, which do you suggest.

Does anyone have any advice on the spindle hub. Is it necessary to replace this also. It has severe scoring on the surface that contacts the outer bearing. I am not sure if I can clean this up.

Your advice is much appreciated, and thank you in advance.

    Joe,

Many people have recommended International axle for better than GM quality spindles. Their website is: http://www.internationalaxle.com/215277/pages.htm

I think they sell you a spindle support housings.

      Gary and Joe-----

Yes, see my above response to Joe's post regarding the GM #3872476 spindle.

Also, the inner spindle flange is GM-discontinued. Usually, if you have one with a galled bearing surface (which is common), this can be surface ground by a machine shop. It MUST be surface ground perfectly perpendicular to the flange centerline, though.

A very convincing testimony against slip fit axles, wouldnt you say.
