Re: C1 Trunk & Deck Tower
Dennis,
I wish there was an easy way to do this, but there is not! I always adjust the lower nut all the way to the end of the threads, and then hand compress the spring enough until a helper can get one of the thin nuts started on to the top.
Thread the nut down until just about 1/4" is sticking out the top of the nut. Now, use a wrench under the bottom nut as a lever to compress the spring enough to get the spring and rod into the hinge bracket. After this it is all dowhill!
Actually, the only hard part is hand compressing the spring to get the nut on.

Re: Do I have this right?
John...
The bottom of the spring will rest on the cross bracket in the tower, the rod ( with a nut on below the cross bracket) will enter the spring and will have a washer and thin nut on top of the spring that is threaded down to allow the rod to enter into the hinge bracket and tighten with another thin nut?
(dumb, dumb not to take pictures during the tear down)
Thank You- Top

Re: Do I have this right?
Dennis,
You have it right. It is only a tough job the first time you do it, and then you will remember the little tricks that make it eaiser forever! You will want a washer under the spring to prevent the spring from wearing against the tower, and you might need to stack several washers under the spring to get the proper tension to hold the trunk lid up. The repro Springs are notorious for being weak and not holding tension. After 3 sets of springs, I finally just gave up on trying to get my lid to stay up for judging!
