    frame stencil date??

I've received my Quanta frame detailing kit and wanted to see if the frame stencil date was in a correct fashion. the stencil reads as following:3949016-42 3.28.68 Assuming that the 3 28 68 stands for March 28 1968. As you may recall from other questions, my body build date was 4 10 and the motor on 4 11. Why would they send me the date 3 28 if the body and motor were in 4 10, 4 11. I can under stand the facts that the frame was built before other parts etc. The card that is on the stencil says,"Calculated build date April 26, 1968." which is 4 26 68. Basically is this a close correct frame stencil?? (3.28.68) Trim tag says I26. thanks jc

    Re: frame stencil date??

The frame was built in advance of the body and motor. The frames were often built in batchs and therefore this date supplied may be from a documented original date from a frame. The frame were built and shipped to the final assemby point so that the date on the frame supply would be in advance of the body and motor. If you look in a 68-72 restoration book, you may find some original photos. This may be where Quanta came up with the date. If all else does not address your question, call Quanta's 800# they have a website to get the rest of the number.

            Mornin' Chester,

I don't know much about 1968's, but most mid-years had a second frame date applied by hand on the right side (passenger) rail. This date represents the day the frame was pulled from inventory and started down the assembly line, and would usually be 2-3 days before your final ass. date. Thisdate would be applied with a white (usually) lumber pencil, upside-down (because frame was upside-down). Other members may be able to tell you if this second date is appropate for your car. Bill

The frame stencil should be upside down on the frame as well. Jerry

Quanta's explanation of the location is great, but would the rolled on (spray painted date/part number) be a full month before the assemble date? Basically from what I've read is that the "batch" was dated 3.28.68 . I can live with that explanation. jc
