Alcohol is a polar solvent, and mixes with water. It will capture any water in the drier and eliminate it. This is the same as when a nonpolar solvent, like gasoline , is used to wash away oil, grease, etc. Any kind of alcohol will work, even Jack Daniels (ethanol-grain alcohol), methanol (wood alcohol). But isopropyl is cheaper.
