On radio volume, make sure you're not working with 'half' of a radio! The base AM/FM radio was packaged as two separate components in '68 (the main chassis and the cable connected 'convector' unit). Often, folks sell 'Corvette' radios and only include the receiver chassis (installs in center console opening) leaving off/out the convector (installs behind passenger side dash). The convector is essentiall the final speaker drive transistor (DS-501 germanium xsistor) mounted on a heat sink. If this is missing or the transistor is damaged, you can expect to have virtually no sound output. See your copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual, option section U69, for how things go together.

Rear end 'bouncing' and 'clunking' when shifting into reverse or from reverse to drive, is often the result of a worn out or missing 'snubber' bumper at the rear differential and a common malady for poorly maintained automatic transmission cars....

      Roy-----

For the speed warning problem, be advised that there is a buzzer located under the dash which must be present, functional and connected for the speed warning system to operate properly. Let's hope that you don't need one, though. This item is long-since GM-discontinued. They sell for big$$$$ on eBay when they come up----often $200, or more.

        Re: 68 speed warning OK

Thanks Jack and Joe. A $200 buzzer, I think not, but I will check the rear rubber donut.
