    Gauge testing

I have pulled the instrument cluster to fix some wiring problems. The car is a 66 convertible that has never been in running condition since I purchased the car 3 years ago. I have no idea which gauges function properly but would like to test or determine which of the gauges are okay. I have tested the speedometer and tachometer but don't know the status of the others. Is there a way to test each of the gauges (water temp, ammeter, fuel gauge) now that the cluster is out of the car? I don't want to reassemble everything only to find out that I have to do it all over again to replace a damaged gauge.

    Re: Gauge testing

its easier to check the gages while they are wired in the car with an ohm meter check the resistance at the sender or gauge and match it up with the chart in the web site listed
there is a tester to bench test the gauges by setting the resistance to the noted levels and comparing the gauge reading
    hope this helps
