    TI ignition coil

    Hello,

I am still trying correct problems with my '68 big block. It has TI ignition and I am begining to question the aftermarket coil on the car. It is a "blue Streak UC-12X" . Can anyone tell me if this is a proper replacement for the original "1115207" coil? Can anyone suggest an aftermarket coil that is and has good availability?

    Thanks,

      Jack----

The current GM-specified replacement for the 1115207 coil is GM #12337166. This coil also replaces the standard ignition coils. I have heard varying reports about the functionality of this coil when used with TI systems, but it is the coil which GM says is a direct replacement for the '207'. This coil will not be correct in configuration to the original coil, though. It GM lists for about 40 bucks, but is available for much less through Delco dealers.

        Clem,

Thank You. What a great site for information and parts. As you said, they are a little pricey, but hey, its a Corvette not a Chevette.

          Joe,

Thanks, I found a proceedure to test the coil using an ohm meter, I'll give that a shot first. I also got a steer to a website where I can buy a correct coil for a large number of dollars.

Jack -- If you're using the amplifier box with the new solid state board (from M & H and maybe others) they claim that their modern circuitry performs satisfactorily with the standard (ie. points) coil, although I haven't checked this out.

              Jack,

My 396 would run with the modern amp card and a points coil, but it could not take full-throttle runs to redline. It would break up around 4500 rpm. I could half throttle it 6400 rpm though. Once I put a TI coil in there...full throttle to redline.
