    Re: value of 1957 corvette

Chris, Is this truly the Corvette in a barn that we've all been searching for ;-)! I'll go out on a limb and guesstimate it's value (untouched) somewhere in the $30,00 to $40,000 range (others may widely disagree). '57 Top Flght fuelies often command prices in the low $50000.

This one would seem to have real value as first a "Survivor." There are many, many Top Flight fuelie cars around, not too many true Survivors around! The tach is of particular interest and could tell something about the car unless of course it is an aftermarket unit. I follow '56 and '57 Corvettes rather closely (own a '56). Hopefully you'll share some technical information from the Corvette with me off line. Reagrds,

I searched the archive to find the original message in this thread and couldn't. Can anyone help me locate it? Thx, Mike

        Original message has been deleted.

It was a prank question about a '57 sitting in a barn. Some child described an unrestored '57 with racing RPO's and asked what it was worth. Later that day the message was removed by the board moderator or the poster. This left only the well-meaning answer that you see.

I guess that I would be MOST interested in, first, "HOW" the determination was made that this message was a "hoax"; second, "WHY" are we hearing this from someone who is NOT the Board Administrator?

"WHAT" is the reason for your concern?

"HOW": The message had no return e-mail address and was from a college server. It was worded like a prank: "My [some relative] has an unrestored original [L-88, '67 L-89, '57 air box, etc.] stored in his [basement, barn, attic, etc.] and wants me to [sell, give away, bronze dip, etc.] the car. I don't know anything about Corvettes; can you tell me what it's worth?"

"WHY": I felt like responding. Just like you. I guess the board administrator hasn't felt like responding so far.

posts on Carls' Yankee Lady, CCA, and other boards. The writing style is identical to other such posts, soooo, this would indicate the posts are the work of the same individual.

It occurs to me that if you're going to delete the original message without notice or explanation, it makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to retain the thread messages.
