Kinda, sorta, depending on how bad it's bouncing. Try cleaning and lubing the tach cable. This will help to minimize the bounce.

I agree. Remember that the tach needle and its associated hardware (shaft, spool, etc)are not damped, so its momentum will cause it to overshoot and oscillate (somewhat). Think of it as pushing a child ahead on a swing; after you let go, the child continues ahead until gravity takes over. In this case, the "pusher" is the cable, and the "child" is the needle assembly. For my money, I'd rather have instruments that are slightly underdamped, than overdamped . There are others who can put this in more elegant terms, but that is the gist of it.

Except for when agressively going through the gears the tach seems fine, very little bounce. I guess it's OK. Thanks

That is why I like to use GM spedometer cable lube...some kind of a blue "sticky" grease that damps the oscillations and doesn't get too stiff when cold. I can't remember the part number, but it really works. The graphite lubes always seem to create these oscillations as they remove the damping....Craig

                Craig:

The drive is only as stiff as the drive cable itself. I am sure that the speedo lube will do an excellent job, but it will not change the modulus of elasticity of the speedometer cable.
