    Holley Carb

We have a Holley 4160 Carb on a 327/350 1966 vette that whistles after the engine is warmed up, It is a rebuilt one. We are not having any success getting the whistling to stop. Please help

    Re: Holley Carb

I had a similar problem on my 1967. Solution was to use two carb base gaskets. The carb body had a small warp, and I have heard this is relatively common. If this is a recent rebuild from a reputable firm however, you should probably not have this problem. I am certain others on the board will offer better advice, but that was my experience.

        Paul:

I assume that it is certainly the carb, and not alternator whine. If you remove the alt belt, and the noise is still present, then it is likely a vac leak. If so, squirt some WD40 on all areas of the carb base while the engine is idling. If the noise is eliminated, and/or the idle speed increases, then you have temporarily sealed a vacuum leak.

          Paul:

I had the same problem on my '66 L-72. It only whistled when warm to hot. I thought it was a vacuum leak at first, but after trying different things I found the thottle base plate of the carb was warped between the base plate and the main carb body. I'm in the process of machining a light cut on the base plate to put it straight again. I think this will solve my problem.

          Good luck,

              Hi Mr. Klemetson,

Have had similar experience with 1967 327/300 #3810.

Did your rebuilder replace the small teflon "bearings" on the primary and secondary throttle shafts? With time these can wear & cause an air leak.

Temporarily (it seems!) fixed mine with two body-to-base gaskets. If not already done, you can tap the two middle/outer base-to-body holes & put two more screws in.
