Is this the real deal? I always assumed these VERY RARE cars were always sold privately.

Re: eBay L88
John:
I am no expert here, and I did not mean to mislead anybody, but I always thought that L88's had iron heads, and L89's were L71's with aluminum heads. I want to be more informed on this subject. Please point me in the right direction. Was there an aluminum head option for L88 engines, or did all L88's have aluminum heads?
According to my limited knowledge of ratmotors, the L88 and L89 engines had little in common. I am guessing now.........but I would assume that the block, water pump, oil pan, rods, would be the same..............absolutely not the camshaft.
The only other aluminum MK IV engine, other than the L89 with aluminum heads, as far as I know, was the ZL1, which was all aluminum........block and heads.

Re: eBay L88
why is it that base cars' tank sheets seem to survive like they were kept in a library, while "rare" cars always have key sections of the sheet missing?
I'm used to seeing a slightly different handwritten number configuration (for '67 at least)...or did they start writing the last 4 digits of the S/N for '68?

Re: eBay L88
Getting a good condition "tank sheet" is tough. My '71 LS6 has a decent one, although there are two areas missing, but enough partial written info to figure the options ordered with. Notice the 'stingray' emblem, should help with the "i" controversy a while back!- Top

Re: 1968 Engine Code?
I would expect to see "IT" suffix on early '69's. LO and MR came into use in later cars, somewhere in the 20,000's if I recall correctly. The later cars came with the "open chamber" cylinder heads, whereas the IT's were closed chambers.
Photos can be misleading, but I see anomalities in the VIN stamp that do not look like typical factory production.
"Caveat Emptor." But what do I know? I believe that the J-56 option was not limited to the L/88
