I read all the threads regarding the different methods of installing front springs (I am working on a '67}, and received some e-mails with suggestions. I believe I found the absolute easiest method. My semi-local corvette shop's mechanic made the suggestion. I borrowed a spring compressor from Autozone(OEM#27035), for no charge}. It has two double hooks, (each hook having one of the ears smaller than the other) and a couple of steel washers under the head. I removed the hooks and added a plastic washer(greased) under the steel ones to protect the paint. I lowered the threaded rod down through the upper shock mount hole, and then attached only the hook with threads as far down on the spring as possible. (The hooks passed easily through the shock tower towards the end). I was able to install the spring and attach the spindle with no problem at all, and highly recommend this method. I thought this part of my chassis restoration would be difficult, but using this method was fast and simple.
