    1967 L88

Does anyone know anything about this 1967 L88? It has been on Cars On Line for quite some time. Seems like a bargain compared with the most recent L88 prices. Providing you have an extra 300 grand lying around.

If you contact the owner, you will find

that the VIN is in the 2XXX range; it appeared at the Kruse auction in Scottsdale 3 (?) years ago, was sold for $1XXXXX, only to have the buyer walk away. The sad part is that before the "creators" started, thye did not realize that they had one of the Nebraska "Shriner" cars. Check it out and get back to us with the VIN.

Anyone know the sequence number of the first bonafide, documented '67 L-88. The "12-mile L-88" that I helped disassemble when new was not delivered until about May '67 , so it was probably April built, at least halfway through the '67 MY production run.

I don't think that L-88s were built until at least half-way through because the package was not released until well after start of production.

It seems to me that "Corvette: America's Star Spangled Sports Car" said they started in March.

        According to http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/l88/l88prod.html
        They began production in February.

At least one competed at Sebring for the 12 Hours so it had be be produced prior to March to have time to ready it to run.

The 12 Mile L88 is 194377S116945 which falls in April.

        Just for reference.

I would be interested in the vin on that car also. I had a guy from Omaha that was trying to sell a 67 that was suppose to be an L88. As it turned out it was my dads Shrine car. It was a 350hp 4 speed. Since we sold all the Shrine Corvettes, I looked up the vin and told him it was not an L88. He then tried to sell it to several other folks, some of them contacted me after traveling many miles to see the car. I also told them it was not a true L88. He then came to me and offered a bunch of $$$ if I would back his story. I told him to F off. Just what I know about it GL

GL , are you saying that you think this is the same car ? I have talked to the seller (not the owner) a couple of times in the past 3 years . Never got much out of him , never would send more photos , VIN # , or info on history ? He maintains that the car was raced for a couple of seasons , then stored until he put it back to factory configuration . Thanks for your input , George

Re: If you contact the owner, you will find

I am saying if this is the same car that was converted to L88 power, it was not a real one but rather made from a 67 Shrine car that was my fathers parade car. My dad was the dealer and a member of the Shrine Corvette Patrol. I drove his 67 many thousands of miles. When the guy was trying to sell the car that was my dads as an L88, he would tell the people that came to look at it that there was no one around that was connected with the dealership to talk to. Several people contacted John Amgwert and got in touch with me. I told them the truth. If we could get the vin, I still have records on that car. I also have records on many Shrine cars. Let me know if anybody can get the vin so we can maybe get the real story on this car. GL

If that is so, then this car should be exposed for what it really is and not a true L88. I tried to call the guy today, as I am only 35 miles from him. I was going to play like an interested buyer and see what he would tell me. Not home, just his machine. I will call him back later. GL

I did manage to get in touch with the guy selling the 67 L88. I didn't tell him who I was only that I live in Ca. I don't of course. He is willing to fax all the supporting documents for the car. If anybody in California wants to give me their fax number, I will give it to him and we can then tell if it is a Shrine Corvette. I did get the same story about the history as I got from him 12 or so years ago, but at that time the car had a blue interior. Let me know if you want to go any farther with this. GL
