    C1 Wipers

With Hurricane Isabel bearing down on us this week, I had my first ever opportunity to use the wipers in my '60. I tried twisting the knob, then pulling, to no avail. I then pushed the washer button (no washers installed) and Voila!, they started working. Now I can't shut them off. Can anyone shed any light on this subject? How is the knob supposed to work? Any other suggestions (other than move to Seattle)? Thanks

Could be where the beldon cable attaches to the wiper motor.

The knob pushes and pulls a cable attached to a plastic slider on the motor. The plastic piece actuates the switch in the motor. The cable may be loose where it is attached at the motor, sort of like a lawn mower throttle cable.

Thanks Gary and Ed. I'll definitely have this fixed before the next hurricane

Quick Lazy way to turn them off is to reach under and pull on the whole cable. It may work if it is just a little out of adjustment. It is not the "fix" though
