Is a 1108400 a service replacement only starter?

    Thanks,

    Tom McCabe

    Re: Starter motor number question

I show 1108400 being original to many C3 big blocks.

        Tom and Mike----

Yes, GM #1108400 is BOTH a PRODUCTION and SERVICE part number for starters used on Corvettes and other Chevrolet cars from about 1965 to about 1977. This starter was used for BOTH big blocks and small block applications. Most of its earlier applications (about 1965 to 1970) were for big block applications and later it was used for both big block and small block.

This is a HD starter with extended length field coils. It has a cast iron nose and it's designed for use with 14", 168 tooth flywheels/flexplates. Also, it's been GM-discontinued for several years.

          Thanks,

            Tom------

As a matter of fact, I've seen a few sell on eBay recently. It seems to me that they sold in about the $300-400 range.
