    C2 Headlamp Paint

It appears from Noland Adams book, that the headlamp assemblies were on the car when the body was painted. Therefore, what is the amount of, and finish of, the paint on the two ends of the headlamp assembly and on the two edges of the body opening? With the close tolerances, if assemblies are painted off the car, might there be enough extra paint on the four edges to cause binding of the headlamp when trying to install it?
    Thanks as always
    Dave

    Hey Dave -

I was wondering the same thing when I was painting my 63. For consistency I decided to paint the exposed part of the buckets while installed. I then pulled them to paint the bezels and unexposed part of the bucket.

They were on the car when painted. The Y stop was not installed so they could be turned all the way around.

Mike and Wayne...Thanks for your responses. Do you, or anyone else, have any idea of the clearances needed between the body and the headlamp assenbly so that the assembly will not bind while turning. I'm concerned that too much paint could cause this.

The spec. in the AIM is .06-.18 inch. It says equal on each side +- .06. Thats easily said, but in reality on 64-67 cars the buckets were almost always shifted to the outside. ie. the gap is smaller on the outside. You hardly ever find an original equally set. 63s could be more easily set in the middle and probably will be more centered.
