I need some advice on the symptoms of a collapsed lifter. I have had to re adjust several lifters on the left bank of a 66 327 CE motor. Without checking with a mike, I think the rocker studs are not moving, the springs are in tact, the adjuster nuts do offer resistance, but not a ton of it. After my latest adjustment (With a hot engine) I was having trouble getting a decent idle, so I shut down and checked all the plugs and did a quick compression check. Right bank 195 - 200, left bank 30, 0, 0, 200. Brought it to tdc and adjusted the #1 valves to just touching, compression came back to 190+/- did the same to #3 and #5 with the same results and all three were tightende down too far (hence the 30, 0 & 0 readings) Started it back up and got the noise out plus 12 turn tighter (I always thought it was 3/4 turn but have heard many differing opinions on that). No noise and ideling much better, but still not perfect. and haven't done a road test yet either. It's ysually after a highway cruise that I get a noisy lifter on that side. If I have a partially collapsed lifter, and adjust the noise out, can the lifter pump up and cause valve to piston problems? Otherwise, any other advice on all this fun??? Thanks in advance!!!
