C1 Rear Springs

When replacing the shocks in my '62, I noticed that one of the inner spring leafs is actually two pieces. This is generally the same on both sides. I always thought that each leaf is supposed to be a single continuous peice, leading me to assume that both spring leafs either broke at some point or that they might be springs from another car? Can anyone tell me how they are supposed to be? Your reply is appreciated.

Norm - Should all be one piece leaves. If original Covette springs, there should be a lateral groove running the full length of each leaf. New replacement springs do not have the grooves. Should be four leaves, but some after markets provided a fifth leaf add-on for the racing/heavy duty crowd.

I've seen a top leaf bent at ninety degrees, but never even crack, let alone break in two. Regards, Dick.

If you aren't worried about "show correct", modern replacents are available from most of the Corvette vendors. For correct, original date coded springs, check with MaryJo or Paragon, among others. Dale was probably the best source for spring work, one more reason he'll be missed.

Thanks for the replies! Funny thing, I took a closer look at each spring and they are generally broken in the same spot. Second spring down from the top slightly behind the axel? In addition, while they could be broken, they appear to be two leafs butted together because they are separated by 1/8" or so.
