    C3 $

im considering doing a frame - off resto but would like everyones input as to the restored value of 71 cpe. 350270--4spd--brands hatchrands hatch vinyl--no air---engine and drivetrain #'s correct, manifolds, alternator, starter not
all glass is correct---i have the tank sticker in 50% cond. and am working on the window sticker by contacting the dealer
i dont have a feeling as to the demand for a combination like this--its not a BB wair so i need nuetral input
full interior resto/new paint/wire harness',suspension... and ALL details functional
id like some realistic input as to what the restored version would sell for--not appraise BUT sell--
i dont want to end up too upside down in this car---ill be doing the assmbl. work myself as i own a race shop--ill farm out paint, seat covers...
i know i cant come out even but i dont want to loose $10,000 either
    any input is VERY appreciated!!!

    Re: C3 $

According to the CPI Collectible Vehicle Value Guide, a '71 base-engine coupe in cherry condition -- a trailer queen fresh from a frame-off -- with matching numbers is valued at $21,500 (full retail). For comparison purposes, they value a '67 427/400 conv at $83,500. These are real values, not Pro-Team or other retailer listings.

based on that $19000. is realistic $ for a car in that shape? or does that retail figure mean real sales are 20% lower?

If you get the car for free, it's a great deal.

If you spend less than $20000 on the restoration alone, even if you do it yourself, I'll buy you lunch if we ever meet. I have a feeling I'll never have to pay on this one.

Restoring almost ANY Corvette, even doing it yourself, starts at $20k and goes up from there. I did a frame on, without doing the bottom end of the motor, the trans, rear end, paint (it had been done by the previous owner) or trailing arms on my Dad's 72 conv and it still was $10k plus in parts alone - 6 years ago. Had I done the rest, it would have been at least $5-7k more. And yes, I did all the labor.

Don't do it for the money. Do it for the love of the labor and the car.

I know you won't believe me, and you'll do it anyway. Everyone has to learn the hard way.

thats kinda my gut was im gonna end up around 19-20k---i really like the car and would be doing for the enjoyment BUT i dont want to take a bath either.
it being a vette is where my lack of knowledge is----i could spend 10k and restore a dodge colt and its still a 1500.00 colt
a corvette seems a little diff. as there is a active market for restoration
i could leave the car alone and get my money back but i really am feeling the itch to do this----
if we meet ill buy lunch anyway for the input----a list like this is worth its wait in gold to me!!
          thanks again, KV

            hey geezer

some one on one of the other corvette website asked why there were so many angry old men over on the NCRS website and i told them it was because they just spent $65,000 restoring a corvette that is now worth $45,000.
