It's an "oddball", non-standard thread size of 3/4-20. You won't find a die of that size in any hardware store, although dies are available.

        John,

If you are needing to clean up the threads you can purchase the thread chaser that you will need from JAWCO Tools. Phone:1-610-376-2019. I purchased one from them and it was delivered within a week. The total cost with shipping was about $10. I couldn't find a mechanic or machinist in town that had one.

          there are "thread files"

made by "eiff & nestor co" lykens,pa called "nu-trix. they are files that have thread pitches cut into them and they are great for touching up screwed up threads

Thanks guys. I got the nut and will have a close look at the threads tonight. Hopefully, you won't hear from me tomorrow!

if the threads in the shaft are not too bad

you can take a nut and file "grooves" into the nut to act like a die and help clean up the threads. i use "never sieze" for lube when i do this.

Re: mistype should be threads ON the shaft

Thanks for the help. We used a thread file and then started a castle nut on backwards to act as a die, sort of. It worked and the car is back on the road.
