    64 coupe quesitons

They might sound dumb, but I need to get the facts straight.

Will be putting A/C in and have to move the alternator to the drivers side, where does the alternator bracket mount at, the water pump or the intake manifold??

The coil? Does it mount on the drivers side or passenger side??

What size battery would you use with a 327 - A/C. I want to use a Gel?

    Thanks

    Bob

    Bob,

The factory AC alternator mount bolts to the water pump and exhaust manifold. I think the coil mount is the same. The battery would be the same but the factory AC cars had a higher output alternator. Don H.

A lot depends on if you are installing factory air or aftermarket air, like Vintage Air. The aftermarket setups can be run with the compressor on either side. Using a modern compressor, having it on the right side won't fool anyone into thinking it is stock.

If you move the alternator over to the left, you need to change the wiring harness and you'll have to move the regulator and horn relay. You will have to drill holes to mount them in the core support on the left.

Whether the aftermarket air will work with the standard alternator is something to ask. You may have to upgrade to more output as the factory air cars ran a 52 or 55 amp or higher instead of the base 37 amp.

Coil sits in the same location regardless.

Batteries I always buy about as high an output as will fit, since I like to be sure it will start regardless of the situation. Saving $10 on a lower output battery doesn't do much if the car won't start some winter or if you left the door open a bit too long.

Will use Vintage Air package. The new wiring harness has the connections for the alternator to the drivers side, will not have to move the regulator or horn relay. My alternator was upgraded to a higher amp.

So the coil does mount on the passenger side?

I'm surprised no one has commented here. I believe that all small block Corvettes carried the coil on the passenger side shielding support. The big blocks carried the coil on its own support on the manifold on the driver side.

I didn't see anything in the '63 AIM about changing the coil for C60.
