    1969 Power Steering

I rebuilt the power steering pump on my 1969 several months ago because of a leak. I wasn't able to trace the source of the leak, and decided to start with the pump. The leak seemed to stop for days at a time, but then I would find occasionally that the entire resevoir had drained all at once. Then a couple of weeks ago the power steering stopped working altogether although the resevoir is full of fluid.

I think my two options are to just assume that I screwed up the original rebuild and replace the pump, or pressure check the system and make sure that it isn't a coincidence. If I decide to pressure check, I need to find a gauge with a shut off valve and the proper connections.

My questions are, 1. is it obvious that I screwed up the pump and should I just replace it? and 2. If not, can I find that gauge somewhere or do I need to find the pieces and construct something.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just saw a power steering test kit with gauge, hoses & fittings in the Harbor Freight catalog. Not very expensive. www.harborfreight.com
