    69 Idle Solenoid & Bracket

Hi all. Can anyone help me research the following part numbers:

    Solenoid 1114418 and bracket 3940916/8

How long did they run and were they superceded by follow-on numbers? Are they still available anywhere?

    Thanks

    John-----

The GM #3940916 and GM #3940918 brackets are a couple of parts that you don't want to need. These are the carb solenoid brackets for 1969 Corvettes with L-68 and A/C. They were discontinued without supercession in April, 1976 and are extremely difficult to locate. They are NOT reproduced and they're ONLY application, ever, is the one I mentioned---they were not used for ANY other car. In fact, since I've never really collected any parts for A/C applications and installations, I don't even have any examples in my collection. One of these days I'm going to apply myself to finding a set of these brackets just for general principles. However, I've already promised the first set I find to another fellow. Since I don't sell parts, I'll have to give them to him. The second set I find is for me. Believe me, finding these parts, especially at anything resembling a reasonable price, is going to be one of my greatest challenges.

The GM #1114418 solenoid is also, of course, the PRODUCTION solenoid for the 69 L-68 A/C application. This solenoid was used for Corvette single 4 barrel with A/C applications beginning in 1968 and was also used for many other similar applications across the Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile car lines. It was discontinued from SERVICE in February, 1968 and replaced by solenoid GM #1114421. In fact, I strongly suspect that the 1114421 was the actual solenoid used in PRODUCTION for most 69 Corvettes with A/C, but it's possible that the 1114418 continued to be used in PRODUCTION for some or all of the model year.

The GM #1114421 was discontinued from SERVICE in September, 1991 without supercession. These solenoids are "around", though. They often come up for auction on eBay. Also, I think that Sal Carbone could fix you up with one. Sal specializes in parts like these solenoids and is an excellent source for anyone looking for such items.

Second question. Was AC offered on 67 427 tri-carb cars?

Yes, A/C was offered for 1967 with L-68 applications. However, for 1967, no idle control solenoid was used. The idle control solenoid was used for 68-69 L-68 applications as well as many other 68+ applications.

Thanks Joe. I was thinking of a similar application that might be adapted to gain functionality. Any ideas? This may turn out to be a from-scratch fabrication.

                Thanks again!

There's no bracket that I know of that could be substituted or modified and substituted. About the only way is to make your own.

                    Thanks
