Just bought 73 cpe 44k from 2nd owner of 25yrs. how do I find & retreive tank sticker. Also car is original except repaint when new do to factory bad paint. Could this qualify for bow tie

Curtis Glad to see you bought a 73. As for Bowtie with a repaint 3 stars is the most your Corvette could get and it would be a star award. The tank sticker is sometimes found above the drivers dash speedo. You need to push down the rubber at the gas tank neck and see if one is on top of the tank. The tank must be droped to remove it. Congratulations on getting your 73. I don't know if GM still had the warranty booklet in 73 like what I have for my 68 and 70, but if they did you can get some good information from what is embossed on the metal plate. The engine and rear end codes are can be obtained from this information piece.

Curtis,

Sounds like a nice car.

Since you don't NEED the tank sticker for judgin or anything else, I'd highly suggest leaving it all in place until AFTER the Star judging is done. You want the car to look as UNTOUCHED as possible. If it's still there, the sticker likely isn't going anywhere now.

Once you have your Chassis star, then you can take it out.

Jim No metal plate in 73 but the tank sticker has the VIN. key codes and about everthing you might want to know if you are luckey and find it. Lyle

I would suggest after judging, if that is what you want to do. Do remove the Corvette Order Copy sheet off the tank, as this is a FRAGILE carbon copy sheet and the lettering will fade into oblivion over time. Preserve it while you can! It contains a wealth of knowledge on the car, if you don't have any of the other paperwork for the car.

"Star" judging is what you are actually having done. You then earn the term "Bowtie" if you earn all 4 stars, i.e. your car is deemed original in exterior, interior, chassis and mechanical. We have been "loosely" referring to the process as "Bowtie Judging" when in reality not all the cars receive 4 starts and are Bowtie cars.

I HIGHLY suggest you talk with the 73 Team Leader and check the NCRS Judging Referencd Manual before you touch the car IF you are considering it for Star/Bowtie Judging. See Paul Borowski's post elsewhere on the Board about his chassis black if you doubt me.
