C3 Door Handle

This is an easy one, but only if you know how to do it. I am attempting to remove a door handle on a 1970. The door handle rod slips through a hole on the handle and the rod has a couple of twists in the end that prevent it from slipping off the handle. I have taken the handle loose but no matter how I turn it I can't slip it off the rod. Should I diconnect the rod down at the point that it is threaded into a round connection. Does this round connection just pop out or it is held on with something. Its hard to see how the rods connecting point at the other end from the handle is connected. Thanks for the help.

Outside handle I assume? Yes it is easier to remove with the rod attached. There is a small clip. Get a thin screw driver, pry up on the lip to release the clip, push forward on the clip and slide out, then pull the end of the rod out.
