    Vacuum Bleeder Recommendation

Been looking for a good brake bleeder/vacuum tool, and was wondering if anyone out there can recommend one that would be good for testing vacuum (headlights/wiper door) and also works well for bleeding brakes?

Thanks in advance for any tips,

    Rich

    Re: Mityvac vacuum pump

    Rich,
For hand operated vacuum pumps, the Mityvac by Neward Enterprises, Inc. is excellent. I've had mine for years and used it in many applications. You can purchase an optional brake bleeder but I don't have experience with it. Seems like most of the guys here prefer pressure bleeding.

The Mityvac is sometimes found in an OTC Tools and Equipment logo box. By the way, the instruction manual is also excellent and shows how to test many automotive items.

    Hope this helps,
    Gene

Sears also sells vacuum testing tool. The tool mentioned above can be bought in different variations. The one I have came in a plasic case with the fluid/brake fluid bleeding container and assorted connectors for the bleeder valves and different connectors for vacuum hoses/lines. It also has a vacuum guage attached to the tool.

Re: Illustrated in Zip Products 2003 cat.

        Rich,
You can see what we are talking about if you have a 2003 Zip Catalog. It is shown on page 59. If you do not have a catalog, you may be able to find it on their website. It is item DB-39.

I've also seen them at various auto parts stores.

        Regards,
        Gene

            Re: Vacuum Bleeder Recommendation

I've got an old "vaccula" unit. It has a container for the used brake fluid and uses compressed air from you air compressor to create a vacuum. Great for flushing systems and bleeding dry systems to a rough bleed. It does poorly in fully bleeding systems. I just quite using the air and have the wife pump the pedal to finish bleeding the system. The container catches all the brake fluid. Does a fine job if you do it this way. Used it today on a complete new 65 Vette brake system.

The mityvac is cheap and works great from everything I have heard.

            Mike
