    C1 drivetrain Q...

On the C1, the engine is supposed to be orange, the Powerglide case and bell is natural, but my '55 has a cast iron ring adapter between. Which color is that?

Dave, Believe I'd give some thought to ordering an 53/55 NCRS Judging Guide for major help in your restoration effort. (And, don't believe any info given to you by Member #14) Best, Dennis

Dave: ignore input from the fellow from lyle with "fool" tattooed on his forehead. i was cleaning out one of the barns all day yesterday and four PG adaptors had a thick coat of grease without any chevy engine blue (235 ci) or orange or red paint ( sb chevys) on them .As the dipstick alluded to, the adaptor should be blue according to the judging manual for a 235. guess the 4 barn adaptors didn't read the judging manual. perhaps dave ferguson, 53-55 team leader ought to be polled for his opinion. see page 3 of restorer mag for his phone/email.he doesn't have the forehead tattoo. good luck, mike

          David,
The adapter ring was mounted to the engine when it was painted, and should show at least some overspray. The powerglide case and bell should be a flat black in color, or at least they were on 58-60 cars and I can not imagine that eariler models were any different. Roy Braatz has seen a lot of early model Powerglide cases, so I would ask him, but if memory serves me right, all powerglide cases were black.

The JG says the PG trans was flat to semi flat black, the removable parts on the case are semi, but the case was shot a quickie of orange 30+ years ago by a trans shop. I suppose the PG could be black with a natural adapter.

Have you two ever considered counseling?

              Mike-----

My C1 knowledge, especially early C1, is very limited. However, if one could consult an AIM I would think that the matter could be resolved. If the adapter was installed with the engine as it left the engine plant and as received at St. Louis, then I would expect that it was painted. If, on the other hand, it was installed at St. Louis at the time that the transmission was attached to the engine, then I don't see how it could have been painted.

The 53 to 54 Adapter was Blue and 55 was RED, same as the engine, but the trans was not painted at all.But others will argue. OH well!

Dave - Loved your last sentense about counseling. Although I have no idea who you might be refering to, maybe we could take up a collection for the Maryland Moron.
