    63 front springs

The maintenance manual says that the "small" end of the spring goes up. By my measurements, both ends are the same diameter. However, one end of each spring has a triangular shaped impression near the end of the last coil. The other end of each spring is plain. Does it matter which end seats in the lower control arm?

    Re: 63 front springs

    Steve-----

For a 1963 Corvette standard or HD front coil spring it doesn't make any difference. The 63 springs were single rate and have equal spacing between coils; they can be installed either end up. I would imagine that the service manual instructions are sort of "generic" and may apply to other Chevrolet applications or, they were taken from a generic text and inserted into the Corvette manual.

1964-67 small block standard springs are dual rate springs and have closer spaced coils at one end. These should be installed with the close spaced coils at the top,
