I am attempting to install a chambered exhaust system on my 1970 small block. It is a three piece system. The first peice attaches to the manifold and comes back to the hole in the frame. The second peice attaches there and runs most of the length of the car. That second piece has an elbow on it at the rear of the car. The question is this should the second piece be hooked onto the first in such a way that the elbow is parallel with the ground or should the open end of the elbow face at an angle up or down? ANy help or even a photo would be great. Thanks

Don-----
Such an installation was never originally used by GM. Therefore, I have no information as to how it would install. It would take someone who's "been down this road" to comment. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 Chambered Exhaust
Don, as I recall that elbow (at the tailend of the mid-pipe) should face upward at approximately a 20-degree angle. With the chambered exhaust, as they have no rear mufflers, this angle is not as critical as it is with a stock-type mufflered system. It really just boils down to mocking the system up on your car, standing back and looking at it, and deciding then what looks best to you.

Re: C3 Chambered Exhaust
Don,
If you can wait, I have the chambered exhaust on my 71. I will likely be able to get a photo this weekend, as I need to take some other photos for someone else on the board.
