    '57 Exhaust (2x4 Engine)

I would like to replace the complete exhaust system on a '57 with the 2x4 engine. What would you suggest be used, and where would you purchace the system? Thanks in advance for your suggestions, they are appreciated.

    Best Wishes!

    Bob,

When I replaced the exhaust system on my 56 2X4, I used a Zip, aluminized steel, system. The fit and quality were just fine. I opted not to use stainless because of originality and I figured that as much as I would drive the 56, it would still last forever. Additionally, I suspect that a lot of the different repo systems are manufactured by the same exhaust bender, so you're probably safe with any reputable Corvette supplier. Good luck, Steve

        Bob:
I replaced the exhaust system in my '57 two years ago. I purchased it from Corvette Central. The pipes and mufflers fit together nice and I had to do only one or two cuts with the hacksaw on the tailpipes.

Would anyone like to comment on the use and sound of the round mufflers versus the oval ones?

            Allen -

The round mufflers are "straight-through", and are both louder and have a nice "rrrrap" tone; great sound! Mix with the singing of solid lifters, and that's a recipe you can't forget

When I bought my '57 it had oval mufflers, the generic kind the muffler shops put on. I installed a complete system including the round "off road" mufflers from Corvette Central. The sound was louder, but not irritating, even with the top down. I like the result.
