    1961 2x4 carb adjustment

I have a 61 270hp(2x4), the car idles just fine, but when you drive the car and only give it around 1/3 of the throttle, it bogs down, in every gear. It seams like unless your getting on it or opning up the secondary on the first carbs or opening up the second carb it will not run right. I have the problem at crusing speeds. Any suggestions. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the carb. Any help?

If you had the carbs rebuilt , check the metering rods, they may be to thick or out of adjustment.

      Jeremy,
Your linkage should be on the progressive setting. Check the squirters in the rear carburetor when you quickly move the throttle lever. Two stream of gas should be visible (hold the choke body out of the way) in order to see. A dribble or nothing indicates the air horn needs to be removed and the squirter pump needs to be replaced. This part comes in a NAPA rebuilding kit for the WCFB. Instructions do too. Regards,

remove the cover from the metering rods and make sure they are free to move up and down. they should be spring loaded in the "up" position with the engine not running.

Elaborating on the progressive linkage that Jim mentioned. The linkage to the front carb should not begin to opent the throttle plates on for quite a bit of the throttle lever motion. I am not sure what the manual specifies, but it seems that the front throttle plates do not open until you are over half throttle. If the front carb is openning too soon, the manifold pressure would increase (less vacuum) and the air would not pull in enough fuel. Check the linkage to see that the front carb delays openning but at wide open throttle, both carbs have their plates fully open.
