The assembly manual (and judging manual) indicate an aluminum plug {rivet) to be inserted in the unused hole in the steering knckle. I have never seen a power steering car with the plugs installed. Is the plug, or rivet peened over on the back side to secure it?

Yes, they're peened - the plug/rivet is solid except for about the last 3/8", which is hollow. They were installed with the flanged solid end facing the ground (the chassis was upside down at the time, and they were dropped in from above, then "squeezed" with an air tool that peened the hollow end over the steering arm). The A.I.M. illustration is incorrect.- Top
