    TI Distributor Magnet

Does anybody have any experience taking the TI distributor Magnet apart to fix a problem with an intermitant dead short?

Any special technique or things to look out for.

Looks like I am going to have to do it.

The coil checks out fine at 584 Ohms, but will occasionally go dead short, leaving me to get a tow home. I have had it short on my distributor machine then suddenly become functional.

    Thanks,
    JimA.

i never had a short but i have had the wires broken inside the insulation because of the movement caused by the vacuum advance and they only open up once in a while.

The problem could well be as clem advises. In that case, and assuming that the failed lead is broken somewhere else besides right at its juncture with the magnet assembly, you should be able to repair it by splicing on a new lead. However, I don't think that the TI magnet assembly is otherwise serviceable. If it fails, you just have to replace it.
