My transmission has always operated smoothly with no problems at all. I don't remember(it's been so long} any leaking into the bellhousing when I dissasembled my engine and transmission. Should I replace the front seal (I assume there is one) while the transmission is out of the car, or is it one of those things not to mess with if there were no obvious problems before.
There is no front seal used on a Muncie transmission. The only "seal" used is the gasket between the bearing retainer and the transmission case. You can replace this if you wish; it's quite easy to do.
I replaced the gasget you mentioned (years ago, when I removed the transmission}. I'm glad to hear there is no seal, just one less thing to do for a change.
