    70 ls5 exhaust bezels

    Hi gang,

After installing my new exhaust system, I got a new set of rectangular bezels. I don't know how far they stick out from the rear of the car and I didnt see any dimensions in the AIM. If somebody knows or has a 70 ls5 I would appreciate some input. For reference sake, lets use the longer top (top sde with the flair) as a point of measurment. Is it flush or 1" or 2" or ??? with the leading edge of the chrome heat sheild?

    Thanks

    Mark

The reason that no specifications for installation of the exhaust tips are provided in the assembly manual is because original tips were located by a "tab and slot" system. Specifically, the original exhaust tips had a v-shaped slot on the bottom and the original mufflers had a tab welded on the bottom side of the short, rear pipe. The exhaust tips were to be installed so that the tab "bottomed out" in the apex of the "V". Of course, service mufflers are without the tab, so this locating mechanism is long gone. Good ridance, though, because its utilization often resulted in original tips evidencing slightly different protrusions on either side. Far better that the tips be individually adjusted with respect to the bezel and without "benefit" of the "locating" system.

Anyway, it is my recollection that the tips protrude about 3/4"-1" from the upper edge of the bezel.
