I came by an original 670x15 tire,it was a spare tire on my neighbor 1955 car he just got with 1600 miles on it, which he gave me.I mounted it as my spare tire. While driving to the Northern NCRS chapter meet in Oregon in our copper 55 Corvette, we had a flat and pulled my spare tire out. I mentioned to the people we were traveling with that it's a NOS tire. Art McNay asked to look at it and said YEP it's NOS, how do you know I asked,. Well I leard some thing that day, that others may like to know also.In razed letters on the tread is the size and wall ply reading 670-15-4.Do all Bi-us tire have this till the radio's came out? You other guys that know about this, please respone, I would like to know.( It's on the bottom now , were the tire meets the road.

I have an original BF Goodrich tire of of my 60 that has the tire size in raised letters in three places on the tread on each edge of the tread. I do not know when this was removed, but it appears that it lasted at least through 1960.

Yes, it was a spare tire and had never been on the ground. I am sure that the letters would have dissapeared in a couple of hundred miles of normal drving.
